Thiel Design Group (formerly Courtney Harper + Partners)completed this first floor build-out of a new six-story research building located on the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center South Campus Research Center. HDR, Inc. is Architect of Record for the remainder of the design of the Research Building.

The first floor is an area that will foster both social experiences and learning. Planning includes a digital library, distance learning classrooms, technology and research support center, as well as an information commons.

The client wished to recognize and embrace today’s student learner with a preference for active participation. This vision encompasses flexible, formal and informal learning spaces where peer-to-peer interaction is encouraged.

The solution includes small semi-private group study rooms with digital capabilities, a 60-seat tiered classroom with distance learning capability, a computer classroom with flexible cluster seating, a digital resource center for skills training, and an information commons for informal exchanges.
